And according to sources, the show was yet another victim of Hollywood’s constant hits. With Hollywood writers and actors still on strike against the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP), there was no hope of starting production on the second season anytime soon. This would likely mean that Season 2 won’t start before 2025, while Season 1 aired in August 2022.
This is the second Prime Video series to be canceled today. It has been previously reported that “The Peripheral” would not move forward with its second season due to strikes.
A League of Their Own was based on the classic film of the same name directed by Penny Marshall and starred Abbie Jacobson, Darcy Carden, Chante Adams, Melanie Field, and Kate Berlant. The series’ official description says it tells “the story of an entire generation of women who dreamed of playing professional baseball. The show takes a deeper look at race and gender, following the journey of a whole new set of characters as they make their way onto the field, both in and out of the league.”
Will Graham and Jacobson served as executive producers on the series as well as co-creating it. Field Trip’s Hayley Wieringo and Desta Tedros Reff also served as executive producers. Jimmy Babbitt also served as executive producer. Maybelle Blair, an All-American Baseball (AAGBPL) player, served as a consultant.
