Chemical weapons Riverdale Wednesday wrapped up after seven seasons, with an eye-catching series finale that covered a lot of bases before things wrapped up nicely. There has been a lot of feedback and coverage from all over the place, so let’s take a look.
This series is based on the characters from Archie Comics and was adapted for the CW by Archie Comics Creative Director Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa. Featuring KJ Apa as Archie Andrews, Lili Reinhart as Betty Cooper, Camila Mendes as Veronica Lodge and Cole Sprouse as Jughead Jones, the series’ narrator.
After the show went back in time to the 1950s in the Season 6 finale, the final episode of the show takes place in the present day with Betty now in her 80s. She learns that Jughead has died, leaving her as the only remaining member of the Riverdale High group. She tells her granddaughter that she wants to return to Riverdale one last time and later joins Jughead in a dream, where he offers to let her live any day she wants in Riverdale. Choosing the last day of school and the party that follows, Betty is soon transported back in and back to her young self again.

The big shock? The finale revealed that Betty, Jughead, Archie, and Veronica had all been in a foursome, polyamorous relationship with each other for a year, with all four being together and swapping who they were romantically involved with each evening. But after high school, none of them end up together even though this is a common wish among fans.
Riverdale Executive Producer Sarah Schechter spoke about that ending to Variety:
“There’s a core of Archie comics about family and town and growing up and everything global, but there was always Archie choosing between two girls. I think we made a really conscious effort to get away from that in the pilot and kept that throughout. So I think it was fresh and appropriate. Enjoy every one.” One of these characters has a big life that she was supposed to live, and I think it was a very brave and interesting choice.
Schechter also spoke with Deadline, where she said they enjoyed the “rare privilege” of being able to plan out the show’s finale in advance.
“The ending felt so natural to me, given how much love everyone involved had for these characters, and that’s how I really felt at the end. Riverdale She said, “It can be really crazy and fun and serious and really emotional, and I’m really glad the ending honored that.”
